2020 Progress Report

April 2020
When we founded Global Flying Hospitals in 2001 we thought everyone would fall in love with the plan to fly high-tech hospitals to those in need, instead of the old model of flying medical professionals into developing countries and working in sub-standard facilities. It simply made good sense!

Since Then
Since then, the world has become progressively worse. We all know that. And it will continue to do so as populations increase, pandemics emerge and become major issues, water becomes scarce, political upheavals, wars, natural disasters … and growing medical needs become challenges.

BIG is NOT the Answer
Today; the need for Global Flying Hospitals is even more crucial.  Yet in the past years our choices were not quite right!  Originally we were focused on acquiring a wide-bodied jet to refurbish. This hindered us with wasted time in trying to raise ridiculously large funds, for too long!  We mistakenly thought BIG was the answer. It’s not! The huge, spiraling costs to refurbish and operate a wide-bodied jet for charitable purposes is simply ineffective nowadays.

Add fuel, maintenance and operations … it became unworkable! Worse; it is totally useless in operating in and out of unprepared, unpaved runways, such as in the highlands of New Guinea … or the tropics of New Caledonia or the Solomon Islands.

Reinventing the Future
Finally, we realized the only way forward was via the “cargo” type aircraft, specifically built for unprepared runways, long distance, speed and able to carry heavy or large loads.  These aircraft are able to ferry roll-on, roll-off, specially manufactured 21st Century mobile hospitals. Each clinic designed for a medical specialism as Dental, Ophthalmology, Pediatrics, Surgical, Prosthetics etc.  Once landed they can even be expanded and be self-sufficient in power, gases, water, filtration and sterile systems.

We decided to predict GFH’s future …. by reinventing it!

No More Fundraising!
By relinquishing the plan for a wide-bodied 747 type jet, we have eliminated the huge costs. And we now have the new business model for humanitarian medical care!

We have also secured our funding for the next decade! All of our old fund-raising projects have been suspended. Only the raffle for the exotic luxury cars remain, simply as a marketing and promotional tool. We are now fully-funded!

GFH Asia
The Board has reaffirmed its desire and vision to build GFH Asia from the Macau Head Office. Officially, GFH is known as Global Flying Hospitals (Macau) Association, and due to the reliefs the Macau SAR Government provides, such as free parking and operations for humanitarian aircraft at the airport. Great savings!

Macau also provides for a geographic “bull’s-eye” to many developing countries; so we shall continue to grow and build from this Macau SAR center.

Closed Offices
Our Board has ceased fundraising operations in the USA and Malaysia and closed offices.  Logistically, it was not feasible. Instead; all our focus is now from the Asian H/O.

GFH Manufacturing Hub

We are currently sourcing the correct place for our state-of-the-art manufacturing plant, which will be close to Macau.   This will be announced in late 2020. This provides a platform for manufacturing and then ferrying our clinics to India, the Sth. Pacific and SE Asian countries – with further reaches to Africa.

Welcome to the NEW Global Flying Hospitals
